Day 2 (Written October 27)

Day 2 - We got up at around 10:00 a.m., got dressed, packed, and went straight to the courthouse to get our marriage license. We took some pictures outside the courthouse before going in. it's absolutely gorgeous in that little town.

While we were doing our paperwork, a little old woman asked us if we knew where the Sweet Onion was. We told her we weren't from there, and she was telling us how good that restaurant was when she used to live there. So when we got everything done, we asked the clerk where the Sweet Onion was for the little old lady and then we left and took a walk down mainstreet. They had some quaint little shops, and everyone was so friendly...real southern hospitality. We started getting hungry and decided on The Sweet Onion that she was talking about. It was SO good!! He got chicken pot pie with mashed potatoes, and I got southern fried chicken with macaroni and cheese and fried okra. I thought the menu said you got a choice of a breast, thigh, wing, OR leg. I realized after she left that she didn't ask me what piece I wanted, but it actually came with ALL four pieces....a half a chicken!! Needless to say, we got two "to go" boxes to take the rest of our food with us. Before we left, I stopped in the restroom and got locked inside the stall!! I tried everything to get out, contemplated crawling under, but God only knows what kind of nasty germs were on that floor. I didn't want to yell HELP because it's just too embarrassing and seriously...nobody actually yells "HELP" unless they're an actor or at death's door. I was just at the toilet stall door, so I just kept pulling and tugging on the door. Finally I noticed something taped to the stall door stating that the door sometimes gets stuck (Ya think????) and gave instructions on how to get the door open. Wouldn't you think that if it's been stuck so many times that they need to write out instructions how to get out, that they'd have had the door fixed by now?? This is a picture of a sweet onion inside the restaurant near the notorious bathroom.

So anyhow, we left and on the way out we wanted to take a picture of the outside of the restaurant, but two little old couples were standing and talking there. When we got tired of waiting for them to disperse, we just got a picture of the hanging sign. But then as we started walking away, we noticed that one of the little old couples was the ones in the courthouse where the lady wanted to know where the Sweet Onion was located. So he chased her down and we went up to them and thanked her for suggesting that restaurant, because it was really good. She was so sweet. She congratulated us on our upcoming wedding and they both wished us much happiness. They were so nice.

We walked around some more, looked in some more shops, but the only thing we bought was some chocolate/peanutbutter fudge. We got in the car to drive to the Bed and Breakfast and enjoyed the scenery along the way. We stopped at Lake Junaluska and took some pictures.

To be continued...
