We're down to the last day before we leave. It's been such a hectic week trying to get everything ready to go. I don't see how brides who plan their wedding from start to finish do it without going nuts! With our "destintion wedding" they're pretty much doing everything for us. They decorate the venue, they do the flowers, the cake, set up the unity candles, stuff for the toast, etc. We're bringing our own version of Canon D, which is from the Highland Serenade CD and is the absolute most beautiful version I've ever heard. We're adding a blessing to the ceremony, and we're also saying something to each other in Gaelic. But trying to get the few things ready that we're doing ourselves is hectic enough.
We've come across some really incompetent morons this week while trying to get all the stuff done. First of all, he had to have his pants tailored, and they made them a noticeable difference in the length of each leg. We also took some things to the cleaners near here. We had a $10 off "welcome to the neighborhood" coupon so we took in two of his shirts to be pressed and we took in my wedding dress to have just the bodice pressed. We picked them up and found one of his shirts to have a stupid permanent crease in the shoulder next to the collar where they didn't do it right, and my dress....oh boy, was I mad!!...first of all, they didn't press it at all. The reason I know this is that not only is the dress more wrinkled than when I took it in, but it also has the same bent applique that was slightly bent when I took it in. And there was a big black finger smudge on the sleeve. He called to complain to the manager and that went nowhere. She said we could bring the dress back and she would personally oversee her employee pressing it. Not on your life!! They're not touching my dress. I also went to buy a new bra and they do fittings there...but when I got home I found that she gave me the wrong size!! So I had to go back again and exchange it. The lady at Dillards gave me the wrong eyeliner even when I questioned it...of course, the one she gave me cost more, so she was just wanting a bigger commission. So I had to take that back and exchange it. When I did, that girl couldn't work her register right to give me back the difference of the two so she asked if she could put it on a gift card. I said yes, but she couldn't even get that done. We just told her forget it, and didn't worry about the refund...just took the other eyeliner.
I went today and had a manicure and pedicure. I LOVED it. They did a great job with my nails, exactly what I wanted. And the pedicure was a dream! The chairs had remote controlled massagers so that was really nice, and I got the deluxe pedicure with the extra exfoliating stuff, the oils, and massages, etc. It was really nice. I don't like the color I picked out for my toenails but that's my own fault. I'll have to look for a prettier color tomorrow.
The other night one of our neighbors was walking in the parking lot as we were walking to our apartment, and she asked if she could use our phone. He gave her his phone to make her phone call. She was pregnant, looked to be about 5 months along, and her face was a mess. She clearly had been beaten and had a big shiner, bruises along both chins, cheeks, temples, just a big mess. She said her boyfriend didn't pick her up from work and he wasn't home, the car was gone, and she didn't have a phone. She was going to walk to a gas station to use the phone. It was probably close to midnight at the time. She was calling somebody to see if they'd seen her boyfriend and asked the person to call the jails to see if he was there. She told the person she was talking to that she didn't have a number where she could be reached but she was going to walk to a gas station, get a number there, and stay there and wait for a phone call. After she hung up I gave her my phone and told her to keep it for the night. We have his cell phone and we have the house phone, and I didn't want her to be without a phone. She brought it back at around 3 or 4 a.m. (I told her I'd be up all night so come by any time she wanted). I told her she could keep my phone longer if she needed it, but she said she didn't know when she'd be able to give it back because she was about to fall asleep. I've been so worried about her. What kind of asshole would beat up his pregnant girlfriend? I don't care what he thought she did that made him that mad, he had no right to put his hands on her, especially that bad. And MOST especially when she's pregnant. I don't understand people. I hope he WAS in jail. He's a "pretty boy" so Bubba will certainly make him his bitch in jail and he'll see what it feels like to be terrorized. I gave her our home phone number and told her not to hesitate to call ANY time she needs us for anything. I haven't seen her since, but I hope she's okay. Hopefully she has family and friends who will convincer her that she's better off alone than she is with a loser like that.
In the middle of all this chaos, I also had to catch up on my school work. I've let one of my classes get behind because they don't have weekly deadlines. Everything is due by the 25th of this month, so I had to work on it practically every waking minute that I was home. I finally got it all done. I am NOT going to let it get that behind again. When I get back next week I'm going to make sure I do at least a couple hours every day on school work. Lucky for me all my classes are very easy. Ok, time to start packing. I'm getting so excited!! :)
